While all of these products are hand painted, the carved work shown on some pieces represents the ancient Chinese art form called Coromandel. It is the carving of clay over wood, hand painting with an oil base paint and using several layers of lacquer as a finish. It is this finish which protects the art work and gives this product its very shiny look.
Embossed pieces, which feel raised, are produced by layering clay, gypsum powder and paint over and over again until the correct height of the embossing work is achieved.
Using a slightly damp, soft cloth to clean the art pieces will give you a lifetime of enjoyment from them. Make sure to wipe them dry with a soft dry cloth also.
